How tradies can get more calls from Google (without paying for ads)

Where the calls actually come from
When someone searches "plumber near me" or "electrician Brisbane", the first thing they usually see is the map with three businesses under it. Those come from Google Business Profile, and they get a big share of the calls. Your website helps you get there, but the profile is where most local calls start.
1. Claim and fill in your Google Business Profile
- Claim your profile at business.google.com. It's free.
- Pick the most specific main category you can, like "Plumber" or "Electrician", then add secondary categories for the other work you do.
- Set your service areas to the suburbs you actually work in. If you work from home, you can hide your address.
- Add your hours, your phone number, and your website.
- List your services with a short description of each.
2. Get reviews, and keep getting them
Reviews are one of the biggest things Google looks at for the map results, and they're what customers read before they call. The easiest way to get them is to ask at the end of every job and send the link by text straight away, while the customer is still happy.
Reply to every review, good or bad. Short and polite is fine.
3. Post real photos
Before and after shots, your ute, your team on site. Profiles with recent photos look active, and customers trust them more than stock images.
4. Make your website say what you do and where
- Put your trade and your area in your page title and main heading, for example "Emergency Plumber in Brisbane Northside".
- Have a page for each main service you want to be found for.
- Show your phone number at the top of every page, as a tap-to-call link on mobile.
- Make sure the business name, address and phone number match your Google profile exactly.
5. Get listed in the right places
Consistent listings on sites like Yellow Pages, Hipages, True Local, Oneflare and your trade association help Google trust your details. Use the same business name and phone number everywhere.
6. Don't waste the calls you get
All of this is about making the phone ring. But if you're on a roof when it rings, a caller from Google will usually just try the next business on the map. Getting found and then missing the call is the most expensive way to lose a job.
That's what LeadBack fixes. Every missed call gets a text from your business in seconds, so the customer waits for you. Read what missed calls cost a tradie, or start a free trial.
